Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead the test design/implementation choices of him/herself and a small number of engineers, reviewing their work and offering input
  • Review software requirements (functional and non-functional) and risks from a verification perspective
  • Participate in backlog refinement meetings, sprint planning meetings and daily stand-ups to ensure that software verification is planned in and performed at all stages of the project
  • Work closely with developers to understand features being developed and how they fit into the overall solution, and then write tests for those new features. Execute the tests as early as possible
  • Verify software subsystems as they are integrated with other software and hardware
  • Demonstrate issues found during verification to other members of the team. Smoke test early versions of fixes to determine if they offer a solution to the issues
  • Ensure optimal use is made of test automation: lead and support the testers to achieve this
  • Store all automated tests and associated tools according to LumiraDx configuration management processes and participate in code reviews on pull requests for automation code
  • Works as Scrummaster for a team that is testing software and hardware for the instrument,
  • Organise tracking and reporting on the work of the testers that he/she leads
  • Lead experiments to identify the best approach out of several alternatives
  • Over time, the role will be expected to have a good understanding of the detailed operation of the whole instrument so that he/she can form robust V&V strategies for the area(s) needing tested

Required Experience

Essential Skills

  • Degree qualified in software engineering or a closely related discipline OR
  • Proven track record of hands-on software testing
  • Ability to translate software requirements into test requirements.
  • Authoring and executing test cases and performing exploratory testing
  • Able to diligently record evidence and data from test execution
  • Certified Scrummaster, SAFE Scrummaster or equivalent track record of being scrummaster for team
  • Experience of using Test, Requirements and source code Management Tools
  • Experience of using task tracking tools such as Jira or equivalent
  • Understanding of a Test Coverage Matrix
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Experience in test automation
  • Experience of planning testing required for a major software release covering multiple sprint of work
  • Experience in mentoring less senior testers, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working in the medical device industry and the application of CE marking directives and applicable device standards
  • A general familiarity with electronics hardware circuit boards (test targets)
  • Experience of SquishQT automation tool and JAMA test management (and requirements) tool
  • Experience in Point of Care and preferably home Medical Device Design
  • Practical experience of the product verification and validation cycle for a medical device
  • Experience of working to ISO 13485 or FDA 21CFR, part 820 (or similar)
  • Able to use design/debugging tools and instruments (e.g. oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analysers, JTAG, IAR IDE, Ethernet, RS232 and USB interfaces)
