Role & Responsibilities

Opportunity:

A Microfluidics Engineer who can make significant contributions in helping design, implement, verify, and troubleshoot the fluidic control of our IVD instrumentation platform hardware as part of the Hardware System Integration team. As a Microfluidics Engineer, you will help the Hardware System Integration team support the fluidic control systems of the IVD hardware.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Help characterize and meet the requirements of the fluidics assays
  • Ensure needs of the assay development team for fluidics control are met
  • Provide innovate and robust design solutions to identified problem areas with the fluidic control
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of fluidic failures
  • Create robust test methods and experiments for fluidics design
  • Assist in developing test and characterization rigs with automation platforms
  • Collaborate across the organisation, providing the relevant people with information as needed
  • Working on multiple projects concurrently
  • Work with external vendors and contractors to create solutions as necessary
  • Maintaining and updating documentation
  • This role is as an individual contributor as part of the Systems Hardware Integration team

Required Experience

Essential skills:

  • Applicable Engineering or Physical Science Degree
  • Industry microfluidics experience
  • Experiment design and execution, with attention to ensuring we are answering the question
  • Data analysis and presentation
  • Quickly moving from prototyping, to development, and implementation of solutions
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and is self-motivated
  • Works well independently but does not hesitate to ask for assistance when needed
  • QMS Experience
  • Collaborate across the organisation, providing the relevant people with information as needed e.g. Lab Technicians, Engineers and Scientists
  • Competent in documentation and report writing
  • Basic coding, software, or scripting experience (for example: Matlab, R statistical language, Python, etc.)

Desirable skills:

  • IVD fluidics experience
  • MEMS fluidics experience
  • SOP, WI, and documentation experience
  • Medical Device and/or Lab on a Chip Experience
  • Experience managing external vendors and resources
  • Consumable and hardware integration experience
  • Consumable manufacturing methods and scaling experience
  • Biology and assay development and transfer experience
  • Experience with regulatory standards including EN60601, EN61010, ISO13485 and ISO14971
  • Experience using mechanical CAD tools like Solidworks or similar
  • Experience using physics modelling tools like Ansys/Comsol or similar
  • Understanding of Engineering Product Lifecycle and phase gate process
  • Working in a Scaled Agile Framework environment
  • Creating and implementing data storage and analysis frameworks
  • Validating development tools with traceability to appropriate standards
