Near-patient diagnostics and care in the doctor’s office and during home visits

Introduction “Hausärzte Bad Feilnbach”
Practice owner Dr. Daniel Darga and his team of “Hausärzte Bad Feilnbach” offer patients all-round care for the whole family. A total of 6 doctors, 9 medical assistants and 1 care assistant (VERAH) provide professional medical services and utilise modern technology for the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim in Germany. The transfer of medical knowledge is also important to Dr. Darga: the practice is an academic teaching practice of the Technical University of Munich. The “Hausärzte Bad Feilnbach” provide a wide range of general medical and internal medicine examinations in their practice rooms. In addition, patients are also cared for at home and in care facilities, either through medical home visits or as part of medical care at home. This service is provided by a care assistant as part of the VERAH program of the German Association of General Practitioners.
Near-patient blood testing in the doctor’s office
Blood testing in the laboratory and, when appropriate, at the patient‘s side using point of care testing make a significant contribution to precise diagnostics and are therefore indispensable for good medical care. Dr. Darga’s practice team routinely uses LumiraDx point-of-care diagnostics. With the LumiraDx Platform, a whole range of established laboratory biomarkers can be determined at the patients side with results in minutes (e.g. CRP, D-Dimer, HbA1c, NT-proBNP, etc.). The portable device works with the smallest patient samples. Blood-based tests can be easily performed from a capillary blood sample from the fingertip (1 drop of blood). Test results are automatically transferred to the practice‘s digital patient’s electronic health system.

Patient-near blood testing during home visits and in nursing facilities
The doctors and the -VERAH- of the practice are on the road 5 days a week, visiting patients homes with well prepared medical and technical equipment. The regular visits to homes and care facilities enable close-meshed care for non-mobile, often multimorbid patients. Patients also have the benefit of seeing their health practitioner and discussing conditions within the comfort of their home. Today, among other things, Dr. Darga checks blood pressure and long-term blood glucose levels with the LumiraDx HbA1c Test directly on the patient.
